On Monday, we were so lucky to have David Gillick visit our school. David is an Olympic track and field athlete who represented Ireland across the world for many years. He spoke to the 5th and 6th classes about his childhood in Ballinteer and how he developed a love for athletics at a young age. He also discussed his achievements in life and he explained to the boys and girls how he overcame various difficulties and disappointments in his career. The boys and girls then asked David some great questions about the Olympics, the medals he has won in his career and how he managed pre race nerves.
Our 5th and 6th class students then went to the DLR with David where he did a great warm up routine with both standards. This was thoroughly enjoyable and one the children could use again and again. All the children then did a 1km run around the DLR with David to finish up his visit to St. Attracta’s S.N.S. Thanks David for giving so generously of your time and for the fantastic words.
