Sport

Sport in St. Attracta’s Senior School flourishes thanks to an extremely interested and committed staff, who give of their free time – lunchtimes and after school –t raining teams and athletes in a range of different sporting activities. GAA – We enter teams in girl’s football and camóige, boy’s football and hurling in the Cumann na mBunscoil leagues.

Basketball, Soccer, Olympic Handball – We regularly organise in-school leagues and also on occasion play other schools in these sports. Athletics – We train and enter a team in the Santry Schools Athletics Competition.

We are very fortunate also to have parents who willingly volunteer to share their expertise in helping to coach some of the above teams.

Each class benefits from the expertise of one of our outside coaches. GAA – Carol Nolan Rugby – Victor Ball

Each class also participates in a six week swimming programme of instruction in the DLR Meadowbrook.

We organise an annual Sport’s Day in which the children run in races against others of similar ability, in relay races and in novelty races.

We organise an annual Sport For All day in which we try to expose the children to as many different and varied sporting activities as possible. This year we rented a climbing wall, had sessions in GAA, Rugby ,Tennis, Fencing , Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Athletics as well as parachute activities.

We organise an annual Skipathon to highlight the benefits of exercise to our general health and to raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation.

Next year we hope to work towards our first Active Flag.
