On Monday 4th March, our u11 girls team represented Dublin in the Leinster Olympic Handball Finals. Just like the Dublin finals competition, the girls had to play a series of group games to progress to the final. After the group stages of the competition, our girls finished 1st in their group after playing Ballyconnell NS from Carlow and Fermoyle NS from Longford. Alanna McLoughlin produced some heroic performances in goal, making some excellent saves that ensured the girls safely progressed to the final.
The girls encountered very strong opposition in the final, playing against Skryne National School. The girls were 3-2 entering the last few minutes. This was after a fantastic performance and some brilliant passages of play. Our goals came from Íde Humar, Katie Darcy and Sophie O’Toole. With seconds to go Skryne scored a goal to level the game! After three minutes of extra time Katie Darcy secured a Leinster title for St. Attracta’s with a powerful goal! The girls proceed to the All –Ireland Finals in UL arena on the 24th of April. The school are very proud of their success and we wish them the very best of luck in the All-Ireland competition! A huge thanks to Ms O’Gorman for all her work with the team and to Ms. Priestley who also accompanied the team on the day.
Go n-éirí libh!!
