Monday 23rd October saw our senior boys football team compete in the Cumann na mBunscol Corn Chlanna na Gael final in Croke Park against St. Joseph’s B.N.S Terenure. This was a fantastic day for our school and it was great to see so many children, parents and grandparents in Croke Park supporting our team.
The boys got off to a great start with Eoin O’Boyle scoring a wonderful goal in the opening minutes. This gave us great momentum and we followed it up with some excellent points from Jack Carty, Dylan Geraghty, Cian Brooke and Conor Kenny. After a fiercely tight and competitive first half, the half-time score read St. Attracta’s 1-5 Drimnagh Castle 1-5.
St. Joseph’s got a fantastic start to the second half and scored 1-2 within the opening minutes. This really put our boys on the backfoot, but just like they have throughout the competition, they showed tremendous resolve, determination and character to get themselves back into the game. We got some wonderful scores through Cian Brooke, Eoin Morris and a well-taken penalty by Eoin O’Boyle. This left us three points up with the game going into the closing stages. Our midfield and defence were heroic in the final stages trying to prevent the Terenure outfit from scoring the all-important goal. Unfortunately, this pressure told and they scored a great goal with two minutes to go. Both sides had chances at the very end to win it, but both defences held out.
After a pulsating encounter, the final score read St. Attracta’s 2-11 St. Joseph’s B.N.S 3-8. Both captains got to lift the Corn Chlanna Gael trophy after the final whistle. Our boys should be extremely proud of their efforts and what they have achieved this year. The entire panel of players were a pleasure to work with and their commitment and dedication were exemplary throughout the whole campaign. We hope this day will be a source of inspiration and motivation for these young lads and we hope to see many of them go on to represent their club at juvenile and even at senior level in the future.
