Yesterday, June 13th saw two of our school teams compete in the Cumann na mBunscol finals in Croke Park. This was a fantastic day for our school and it was great to see so many children and parents in Croke Park supporting our teams.
First up were the girls camogie team, taking on Pope John Paul II National School. After a slightly shaky start, the girls settled into the game particularly well. After some great scores and two goals from Siobhan O’Regan and Aoife Long, we were 2-3 to 2-1 in front at half time. The second half was a fiercely tight and competitive affair with both teams trading some great scores. Our girls dug deep and after a tense finish, they came out on top on a scoreline of 2-6 to 2-3. This is a fantastic achievement for the girls, especially after winning the Corn Tadhg Ó Cionnaithe football competition back in October. Joint captains Laura Ryan and Aoife Long got to lift the Corn Olly Quinlan trophy after the final whistle. A huge well done to all the girls and to their management team, Ms. Lynskey and Ms. O’Gorman.
Up next were the boys senior hurling team, taking on Scoil Mobhí. The boys started very well and were 3 points to 2 up after 10 mins with great scores coming from Hugh Sweeney and Adam O’Reilly. After conceding a few scores, the boys found themselves trailing 1-7 to 0-3 at half time. The boys gave a great account of themselves in the second half. They showed unwavering determination and resolve throughout the game in such testing conditions. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be our day and the scoreline at full time read Scoil Mobhí 4-12 St. Attracta’s S.N.S 1-7. A huge well done to Scoil Mobhí, but our boys should be very proud of their efforts. Well done to the boys on getting to Croke Park and thanks also to their management team, Mr. Kenny and Mr. Coughlan.
