School Evaluation
A Whole-school evaluation (WSE) is a process of external evaluation of the work of a school carried out by the Inspectorate of the Department of Education and Skills (DES). The process is designed to evaluate key aspects of the work of the school and to promote school improvement. During these inspections, the quality of the school management and leadership, the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, and the school’s own planning and self-review are evaluated. St. Attracta’s Senior School underwent a Whole School Evaluation (WSE) by the Department of Education during the week of the 2nd February 2015. School Self-Evaluation
In recent years we have introduced new whole school literacy and numeracy projects. As a result of our school self-evaluation process we produce an annual school improvement plan. We examine our practices in other curricular areas also and we constantly review our work and our way of doing things. This is in the best interests of the pupils and it gives us an opportunity to enhance both teaching and learning. Our School Improvement Plans in Literacy and Numeracy are available from the school office. They have informed our teaching and learning over in recent years. Our School Improvement Plan in Literacy (2012 – 2015) focussed on (i) Writing Genres (ii) Comprehension Our School Improvement Plan in Numeracy (2013 – 2016) focussed on (i) Problem-Solving (ii) Maths Trails (iii) Maths Eyes SPHE and Ceol have been identified as the next curricular areas for evaluation and improvement in our school.
