We had a wonderful celebration for World Down Syndrome Day on Friday, March 20th. All students proudly wore odd socks to mark the occasion and help raise awareness.

We also held a fundraiser in support of the local Down Syndrome Centre in Sandyford, and we are delighted with the generosity shown by our school community.

Thank you to everyone for your fantastic support in making the day so special.

St. Attracta’s Senior Girls’ Footballers were crowned Division 4 Champions in Croke Park on Monday 21st October 2024. A dominant display from the Meadowbrook girls saw them defeating Gaelscoil Míde, Kilbarrack on a scoreline of 7-05 -1-05. Gaelscoil Míde opened the scoring with a well taken point but St. Attracta’s soon took control of proceedings and they produced an excellent team display full of skill and commitment. A haul of 6-02 from the outstanding Katie Darcy at full forward proved to be decisive. The team were led superbly by their captain Sophie O’ Toole and she delivered a commanding display from full-back. The entire squad made valuable contributions over the course of the campaign and we hope that their victory will inspire the younger classes in the school to become involved in sport. This is the second time in three years that a Saint Attracta’s girls’ gaelic football team have been victorious in Croke Park and it bodes well for the future of ladies’ football in the area. Congrats to the entire panel and their wonderful coaches Ms. Quigley and Ms. McCann for their commitment and dedication to the group over the last few months. We are all extremely proud of this fantastic achievement. H. Harty, A. O’ Brien, S. O’ Toole, J. Gleeson, I. Humar, L. Morris, E. Delicato, A. Rowland, A. Clarke (0-3), A.
On Wednesday May 23rd we had a fantastic day at the annual Cumann na mBunscol athletics event, held in the Morton Stadium in Santry. St. Attracta’s SNS had teams competing in the U12 girls and boys relays, the U14 girls and boys relays and individuals participating in the long jump, shot putt, 600m long distance and in the 80m sprint competitions. All our athletes competed excellently on the day against some brilliant opposition from all over Dublin.

Our first medal of the day was won by Joseph Oyekanmi who won gold in the U12 80m sprint competition. Joseph ran superbly in the final and showed wonderful acceleration in the final 30 metres to get his head across the line in first place. This is a fantastic achievement for Joseph and one he should be very proud of.

Only a few minutes later, Cara Fortune won bronze in the U14 600m. Cara ran a great race and showed fantastic determination and endurance in the last 100 metres to pick up the bronze medal. Well done Cara.

Finally, after two brilliant runs, our U12 boys relay team took home bronze in a fiercely competitive final. This team consisted of Joseph Oyekanmi, Eoghan Harney, Arthur O’Shea, Dylan Geraghty and Benji Mico Avomo. Well done to the boys and once again they should be very proud of their fantastic achievement in Santry.

A huge well done to all our athletes who represented St. Attracta’s so well on the day and a huge thanks to Ms. O’Leary, Ms. McDonagh, Ms. McCormack and Vigetta Moran who all gave of their time so generously to help prepare the children for the various events.

On Wednesday April 24th, our U11 girls Olympic Handball team travelled to University of Limerick to participate in the All-Ireland Olympic Handball finals.

After a long bus journey to the Limerick venue, the girls were straight into a round robin group competition that would determine the pairings for the upcoming semi-finals. Our first game was against Gaelscoil Pheig Sayers from Cork and after a fiercely competitive game, the girls came out on the wrong side of a 7-5 scoreline. The group stages also pitted our girls against St. Patrick’s Primary School from Portrush and Corrandulla National School from Galway. The girls fought exceptionally well in these games and came away with two vital victories, beating St. Patrick’s 8-1 and Corrandulla 5-2.

These results meant the girls finished 2nd in the group and were pitted against Corrandulla National School in the All-Ireland semi final. They proceeded to produce one of their best performances of the day winning comprehensively with all ten panel members contributing handsomely. In the other semi final, Gaelscoil Pheig Sayers from Cork came out on top meaning the All-Ireland final would be a repeat of our first game of the day.

After an exceptionally competitive game, the girls came out on top with the final score reading St. Attracta’s SNS 7 Gaelscoil Pheig Sayers 3. Our girls played exceptionally well and scored some fantastic goals with Katie Darcy getting three of these and Amy Clarke scoring four.

It is a superb achievement for the group and their coach, Ms. O’ Gorman. It is the first time in the school’s history to achieve success at this level and the girls should be so proud of their success. A huge thanks to Ms. O’Gorman for all her hard work throughout the campaign.

On Sunday April 7th, our Junior Credit Union Quiz team of Darragh Enright, Daniel Fitzpatrick, Lucy Morris and Conor Young participated in the All-Ireland Credit Union Quiz Final in the RDS. It was an unbelievable achievement for the team to get this far and one they should be extremely proud of. After some extremely challenging questions and 8 rounds in total, our team finished joint 18th out of 44 teams in total. This is a wonderful result considering these 44 teams are comprised of children from all over country. Well done to the team once again and for their amazing success this year.

Secondly, on Thursday March 21st, Divine Word in Marlay held their Inter-Schools General Knowledge Quiz for sixth class pupils from the surrounding area. After eight rounds both of our teams did very well and finished in the top six. The St. Attracta’s SNS teams consisted of Oisin Coleman, Katie O’Neill, Barra O’Baoill, Dara Farrelly, Elliot Gallagher, Luke Shorten O’Reilly, Arthur O’Shea and Jamie Keenan. These boys and girls represented our school so brilliantly on the day and they should be very proud of themselves also. Well done.
